![]() :) Cheers If save scumming is not truly legit, then almost nobody has beaten system shock 2 legitimately, on impossible anyways, just because of how difficult the game is. Well playing totaly legit would mean not using save scumming so it aint truly legit is it ? :D -> but either way yah both of those tactics are exploits and since its a very very old title it wont be fixed or patched so its entirely up to you - use them or dont and thats about it. I think that this would fall more into the category of exploits like being able to two-shot Brain of the Many with soma transference. Originally posted by The REAL Moon MAN:Yeah, of course you can outright cheat, but I'm actually trying to play the game legit on impossible and I don't even have console on in launch options. TL,DR: You can use quicksaves, at least on the modern operating system versions of SS2, to prolong "temporary" psi buffs indefinitely, especially useful for the localized pyrokinesis / photonic redirection combo, all but eliminating the game's difficulty. It's hilarious, but it ruins the game, turning an incredibly scary, tense, and difficult survival horror game into a Stanley Parable-esque walking simulator. Anyways, I am *NOT* promoting this exploit: DON'T use this exploit ESPECIALLY if this is your first playthrough. Using the quicksave technique, I left a pile of destruction in my wake, complete with like 10 corpses, among them a number of protocol droids, cyborg assassins, security bots, and grenade hybrids. I wish screenshots worked on my machine, because I wanted to see the full extent of this overpoweredness, so I purposefully set off a security camera in the hub-like area of Recreation where there were already two security droids, and holy sh*t it was incredible. Suffice to say this exploit is ridiculous. Maybe I'm not the first to discover this bug or maybe it is just a fluke for modern operating systems, meaning that it didn't occur back in '99, but I cannot find any forum from then or today that addresses this god-like exploit. The same goes for, if I'm correct, *all* of the "temporary" buffs you get from psi spells, you can literally use this exploit to make them go on indefinitely. Now, as if this combination weren't already overpowered enough, being able to be used in conjunction with each other even though attacking is supposed to end invisibility, I discovered that quicksaving during the duration of these spells and loading up a quicksave literally *restarts* the duration. Once I got past Hydroponics and started obtaining a large amount of cyber modules for the tier 4 psi abilities, and having already learned localized pyrokinesis, I acquired photonic redirection, the psi spell that makes you temporarily invisible. If you're like me, you use quicksaves/save-scumming profusely.Īnyways, I'll cut to the chase. I traversed most of engineering with 0 psi points and 3 hit points, wielding a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless wrench, and having only 1 point allocated to anything besides psi, that being hacking. I'm sure that this is common knowledge, but psionics playthroughs are late-game oriented and start out completely hellish, particularly on impossible. ![]() During my first playthrough I specialized in the easiest build, that being Navy, hack, repair, and standard weapons on hard difficulty, then I decided to go on a more interesting psionics run on impossible difficulty. I'm on the Recreation Deck of my second playthrough of System Shock 2.
